Beta War 3 Rule Changes

Post by Cossid »

Below are the expected rule changes for Beta War 3 which will be starting on Nov 15th

Rules that are certain:
  • No mules - will be enforced.
  • 2048 Star, 49 Prov galaxy
  • 6 Player teams
  • 7 Planets per player, 6 scoring
  • Adjusted return ratio for non-blackhole planets * (see description below)
  • Alliance drops & Troop trading will remain enabled
  • 7 Wormhole pairs (minimum distance adjusted to reflect smaller galaxy size)
  • Improved default PM settings for all planets
  • Starspace accleration of all non-scout ships has been adjusted to match their hyperspace acceleration rates (previously, all ships followed the scout acceleration rate in starspace)
Rules that are probable/uncertain:
  • Due to corrected non-blackhole ratios, Gun/Fighter costs may be returned to defaults of 100 for Fighters, 150 for Guns. This is open for input/debate.
* The current return ratio has been known to be wrong since inception, and is being adjusted drastically. Worse, TRA was multiplying the return bonus making TRA far more fig saving than it should have been. Gone are days of 90% fighter returns, the best bonus returns will now be in the 30% best-case area where they should have been all along.

Note: The current non-blackhole ratios will remain unchanged for the current Beta 2 war for consistency and fairness purposes.

Very excited about the extra planet - One more planet to PM! - love the flexibility and additional possibilities it can give to a player's strategies.

Just a thought - perhaps you should consider keeping the gun/fighter costs the same as present until the effects of the return ratios adjustment are investigated over the course of a war. Change one thing a time to fine tune the situation, rather than two things at once. Of course, Caleb, you know best.

Also, with Thanksgiving holiday in the middle of BW3, perhaps active alliances should consider some sort of a 3 or 4 day Thanksgiving truce to refrain from planetary attacks during that period. Same for December holidays, if applicable.

That is of course my initial thought/plan, I just put the possibility up for people to discuss it.

The concept of guns costing more than fighters dates back to times when fighters could also defend, and there was no TRA bonus. I have a feeling balance will dictate the continuation of reversed costs or even costs for best balance.

As always, that will be up to the players.

It has just come to my attention that in the current Beta War 3, the cost for fighters is actually 100, and guns is 150. This will remain for the duration of the current war, I will be deciding on what to do moving forward.
